In recent elections held at the British Fluid Power Association (BFPA), the main trade organisation for the fluid power market, Flowtech Fluidpower Director John Farmer was elected as the new Vice President, to take up office with immediate effect.
This news comes shortly after John’s appointment to Group Commercial Director for Flowtech Fluidpower plc, a step up from his former position as MD of Flowtechnology UK, one of the Group’s Components distribution businesses.
In his new commercial role, John will be building closer strategic partnerships with key supply partners to ensure each can gain access to all members within the Flowtech Fluidpower Group and vice versa. This serves as an excellent fit for the BFPA, positioning John as an integral link between the needs of suppliers, customers and industry.
John has over 30 years’ experience in fluid power and has a keen passion for both education and health and safety matters surrounding fluid power. Through the BFPA’s already close links into government, he aims to improve awareness and in particular training to the younger generation about the importance of fluid power in modern day industry.
John comments on his plans for change, “The younger generation is the key to our legacy, the world is changing and becoming more technology focused. While we can tap into this; designing systems which become more automated and electronically operated, there will always be an important place for fluid power, as no other technology provides the same power and precision required to control today’s mechanical giants or manufacture life-saving drugs en mass. Through education in schools and in the workplace, we can raise awareness about the career opportunities fluid power has to offer, along with the importance of minimum health and safety standards in manufacturing. Through a more modern approach, this is what I intend to do in my role as Vice President for the BFPA”.
CEO, Bryce Brooks added, “The Board and the Group were delighted to hear of John’s new appointment with the BFPA. Fluid power is our lifeblood and it’s of great importance for us to have strong collaboration and increasing Group representation. We now have four members who occupy various seats with the BFPA, including; Onsite Services MD Simon Dickinson as Chair for the BFPA Health & Safety Committee; Flowtechnology UK MD Keith Dickinson who sits on the BFPDA council, which is the distribution side of the BFPA, and FTUK marketer Andy McManus who sits on the Marketing Committee at the BFPA. I look forward to seeing the positive progress as John takes up office”.
